Is there any difference between a dog trainer and dog behaviourist?

Yes, a dog trainer helps to teach your dog or puppy life skills, supporting various skills in and out of the home. New skills like recall, lead walking, new tricks, or specific training, like agility, hoopers or scent work that has benefits for you and your dog.

A dog behaviourist has a deeper knowledge and understanding of canine psychology, behaviour, body language and communication supporting both you and your dog. Assessing your dogs overall wellbeing from a holistic approach looking at physical, and gut health understanding the cause of why your dog is finding certain parts of their life difficult, speacialising in aggression, anxiety, and or trauma- related cases with longer care and support, which may also involve working alongside other professionals such as vets physios.

I am a certified and accredited dog behaviourist, also holding several puppy, dog training qualificaions, including scent work certifications. I provide dog behaviour assessments as well as 121 dog/ puppy training sessions.

Do you give guarantees?

No, I can not. Every dog is different. Just like us, dogs experience a wide range of emotions and there can be many factors that can affect and influence behaviour, including genetics, environment, past experiences, and health, so it's important to find the root cause to offer the best support plan for your dog, understanding that every dog's journey is different.

Guaranteeing results could lead to unrealistic expectations, and it is unethical to make a guarantee for specific outcomes, as dogs are sentient beings and changes in a dog's environment, health, routine and past trauma can affect how they feel.

There is "no one size fits all" tool or method in dog training or behavioural support. Instead I aim to provide you with an understanding of your dog's behaviour, the why, and work together, offering knowledge, advice and specific training and or behavioural support for you and your dog's individual needs.

The only guarantee I make is that your dog will never be forced into a situation they cannot cope with, or subjected to slip leads, shock collars, prong collars, choke chains or any harsh, punishment training techniques.

What is positive, reward based in dog training and behavioural support?

As an accredited behaviourist with INTODogs. I only promote positive, kind, gentle motivational methods with a compassionate approach within my work, putting your dog at the centre of everything I do, viewing your dog as a sentient being that should always be treated with the respect they deserve. I explore all aspects of your dogs life, including physical, mental, social and emotional needs, and help you continue to build the bond and a trusting relationship with your dog.
